The reason that a time limit is often imposed is not to limit the length or hamper the quality of the work but more to develop the writers ability to write quickly and concisely and without over thinking their work. As such, flash fiction is a great way to practice writing regularly, whether it be fiction or non-fiction, without taking too much time up.
