Diane Dunwell-Hoffman was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, on October 26, 1951, the third of five children born to William W. Dunwell, a machinist/entrepreneur, and Ruth M. Eck Dunwell. She had a happy childhood and worked in their family snack bar, and luncheonette/grocery store. Raised in Alpha, NJ the young Diane loved to write short stories and poetry. Diane attributes her eighth grade teacher Mary Riggio’s dedication to the language arts and literature as her lifelong inspiration to be a published author. Over the years she entered her poetry into several contests and often won first prize. After Diane became a grandmother in 1999 she decided to begin to write about her life growing up as a baby boomer during the 1950s and 60s. Diane became sad one evening while reminiscing about the joy she experienced while spending summer vacations at the farm of her god parents in the Blue Mountains of Pennsylvania. Diane’s godparents had passed on several years earlier and her grandchild would never get to share this experience unless Diane wrote it down. Thus Diane’s first short story The Secret Behind the Mirror was written so that future generations of her family could read about the lovely Victorian farmhouse, and heartwarming stories of her god parent’s farm. On a whim in the Spring of 2005 Diane submitted this short story to a publishing house. She received a return letter asking her to expand on the story. This was the exact same advice she had received from the renowned screen play writer/director/producer Frank Laloggia when he read her manuscript. In July Diane signed her first contract to have what had now become My Ominous Adventures At True Blue Farm, The Secret Behind the Mirror published. Diane was ecstatic when she held her first copy in her hands. It is sold at all major online book stores. On November 2, 2010 Diane signed a contract to have her memoirs published. Her second book When October Goes will be out in the spring of 2012. Diane is now the grandmother of six wonderful grandchildren, three each between her two lovely daughters. Her grandchildren are the constant inspiration for Diane’s will to leave a legacy of the written history of the joyful childhood experiences of a baby boomer. She is often cited as an example of an individual successfully beginning a career in writing at an advanced age.
