Blurb

Waylander the Slayer is an unlikely hero. He is a cruel man, a loner and he assassinated the king for gold. The Dark Brotherhood and the Hounds of Chaos hunt him wherever he goes and he knows his time is probably limited,

Then a mystic tells Waylander that the only way to save his nation from invading armies is for Waylander to retrieve the legendary Armor of Bronze from its hiding place deep within a shadow-haunted land. A mission he was certain to fail. But he must try, for the mystic is father to a slain king and Waylander feels guilt for the crime he once committed.

Our Review

Waylander by David Gemmell is the third book in The Drenai Saga but can be equally enjoyable on its own. I had only read the first book in the series Legend but was unable to find a copy of the second book in the series so went straight on to this one.

The book begins with King Orien hiding The Armour of Bronze in a cave until such a time as The Chosen One is able to retrieve it.

When we meet Waylander he is tackling some bandits in an attempt to retrieve his stolen horse. Reluctantly he also rescues a Priest from them. His name is Dardalion and despite observing that half the world would pay to spit in your face, he decides to travel with Waylander.

Before they set off on their journey Waylander provides him with some clothes but Dardalion is a mystic and is unable to wear the clothes he provides him with because they have memories of rape and murder. Instead Waylander provides him with his own spare clothes.

Along the way Dardalion convinces Waylander to escort a young woman and three children to safety but will they make it to safety with enemies attacking them from all sides.

I enjoyed Waylander, it was an enjoyable read.
