Aravind Enrique Adyanthaya is the founding director of Casa Cruz de la Luna, a theater company based on an old building in the historic center of San German, Puerto Rico. His works explore private flows of images and words, the verbal and the graphic, certain sites (cemeteries, towns in the island's Southwest, pseudo-religions, new technologies, India) and an awareness about the act of writing.
His publications include "Lajas" (anthology of short stories, Isla Negra Editores, 2002), "The Mystery of the Birds" (theater, Playscripts Inc., 2003), ¨ "The Faculties" (theater, Casa del Teatro, 2008/ Concepción 8, 2010) "The X-Matic" (children's story, Alfaguara, 2009) and "The City of Glass" (children's story, Alfaguara, 2009).
He received First Prize for Short Story of the Puerto Rican Atheneum (2001), First Prize for Short Story Collection of the PEN Club of Puerto Rico (2003), First Prize for Drama of the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture (2004), the Children's Short Story Award from the newspaper "El Nuevo DÃa" (2007), the International Theater Award of Casa del Teatro of the Dominican Republic (2007), Pregones Asuncion Award (2008), and Playwriting fellowships from the Jerome and McKnight foundations.
Aravind has a doctorate in medicine from Mayo Medical School and a doctorate in theater historiography of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
His second anthology of short stories, "The Hand" was published in 2010 by Editorial Concepcion 8.
