Preston Bruce Sr., 88, who served under five presidents as White House doorman from 1953 to 1977, died of congestive heart failure Dec. 21 at Holy Cross Hospital. He lived in Washington, DC.
During his years at the White House, his duties included greeting guests and introducing them to the president. He also helped train military aides who acted as escorts at White House dinners, and he brought the president early-morning briefing papers.
After retiring, Mr. Bruce lectured to youth groups about the White House and the presidents he had served. In 1984, William Morrow Co. published his book .
