Born in London, England, brother Eric. Attended London University then lived in Poland and later Germany, where he married. Put in concentration camp for the duration of WW2, he later remarried (Anne) and emigrated in 1957 to Rhodesia for health reasons, taking a position as Professor in Modern Languages.
Sons by original marriage are Peter and Wolfgang.
Son Simon and daughter Jane by second marriage.
Retired in 1970 moving back to England, settled in Exeter.
