Born in Chicago and educated at Vassar, Mary Borden equipped and ran mobile aid hospitals in both World Wars. She married first to George Douglas Turner, then to British Brigadier General Edward Louis Spears, later Lord Spears. Between and after the wars, she wrote romance novels, first-person histories, poetry, and short stories. [1]
