[Deutsch] **Hermann Alfred Freiherr von Gutschmid** (geb. 1831 in Loschwitz; gest. 1887 in Tübingen) war ein deutscher Historiker und Orientalist. Er befaßte sich vor allem mit der Geschichte des vorgriechischen und des hellenistischen Orients sowie der alten Chronologie und Annalistik.
Auch nach Gutschmids Tod lebt sein Werk weiter: 1888 veröffentlichte [Theodor Nöldeke (1836-1930)][1] aus dem Nachlaß die *„Geschichte Irans und seiner Nachbarländer“*. In den Jahren 1889-94 veröffentlichte [Franz Rühl (1845-1915)][2] Gutschmids wertvollen *„Kleinen Schriften“*.

[English] **Hermann Alfred Freiherr von Gutschmid** (b. 1831 in Loschwitz, d. in 1887 in Tübingen) was a German historian and orientalist. He dealt mainly with the history of the pre-Greek and hellenistic East and the ancient annals and chronology.
Even after his death Gutschmid's work lives: In 1888, [Theodor Nöldeke (1836-1930)][3] published, from the estate, the *“Geschichte Irans und seiner Nachbarländer”* (History of Iran and its neighboring countries). In the years 1889-94 [Franz Rühl (1845-1915)][2] published Gutschmid's valuable *“Kleinen Schriften”* (Small works).
