Johann P. Boshoff, after finishing his BA Hons in Afrikaans and Dutch literature, taught Afrikaans language and literature to both children and adults at mainly private institutions, during which time his career as an academic writer took off (resulting in 14 titles on all aspects of Afrikaans targeting non-Afrikaans students). Thereafter, Boshoff became translator/language editor (Afrikaans, English), specializing in legal translation, resulting in his becoming the head of Afrikaans translation and editing at the National Language Service, Department of Arts and Culture (November 2002 – March 2004). In addition, since 1998, he has more fully established himself as an Afrikaans (and occasionally English) writer in various styles and genres, both literary and non-literary (14 titles plus contributions to various collections). He has also done literary translations for publication in the Netherlands and for use locally. Currently, in addition to being a Bloemfontein based writer, Boshoff freelances as journalist and translator/language editor.

On 2 February 2008, Boshoff received the PanSALB (Pan South African Language Board) "Writer of the Decade: Afrikaans" Award for nation-building through multilingualism.
