[Deutsch] Johann Franz Encke (* 1791 in Hamburg; †1865 in Spandau bei Berlin) war ein deutscher Astronom. Er entdeckte u. a. die nach ihm benannte Enckesche Teilung des Saturnrings, berechnete die Bahnen von Kometen (Enckescher Komet) und Asteroiden und bestimmte die Parallaxe der Sonne.
[English] Johann Franz Encke (1791 in Hamburg – 1865 in Spandau near Berlin) was a German astronomer. Among his activities, he worked on the calculation of the periods of comets and asteroids, measured the distance from the earth to the sun, and made observations on the planet Saturn.
