John Alexander Joyce (1842-1915) Born in Ireland and was educated in Kentucky and became a lawyer. Enlisted in the Union army at the start of the Civil War and eventually was promoted to the rank of Colonel. After the war he reurned to his law practice and authored several books including his account of the Civil War entitled "Jewels of Memory."
