Tom teaches at King Edward VI College, Stourbridge. He was previously senior lecturer and head of department at Liverpool Hope University, where he is still a PhD supervisor. Tom's research interests are in theory and analysis, particularly with regard to tonality at the beginning of the twentieth century and the music of Carl Nielsen. He has lectured on Schenkerian analysis at Liverpool University, Manchester University, the Royal Northern College of Music and Helsinki University. Tom also works as an e-learning consultant for the RNCM.
