Hysen Voci was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1933, but later on his family moved to Tirana, Albania .
He studied at Faculty of Natural Science (U of Tirana, Albania) and later worked there at
the Botanical Garden.
For a very long time he has worked (“hobbyâ€) in the field of translating from Italian and Turkish into Albanian.
His early translation were published at “Revista Horizontiâ€, but his most well known work was the
Italian – Albanian dictionary published in 1979, which was printed and distributed also in Italy for
the Arberesh community living mostly in southern parts of Italy.
Also of a great success in Albania, Kosova and Macedonia were his dictionaries Albanian – Turkish and Turkish – Albanian, and the workbooks in Turkish language.
Not too long ago publishing house “Scanderbeg†has published his latest translation of “The house of silence†of a Nobel Prize winner, Orhan Pamuk.
Hysen now lives in Canada were he continues to contribute in the field of translations.
