Geraldine Ryan Lush was born and raised in St. Joseph's, St. Mary's Bay, NL. She studied at St. Brides College, Littledale, and received a Bachelor of Arts and Education, Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a major in English Language and Literature. She taught school at several locations in NL/Labrador and Canada, becoming an internationally recognized author in 1992, with the publication of her first childrens' book, "Jeremy Jeckles Hates Freckles." Her Awards/Honours include American Bookseller's Pick Of The Lists, School Library Journal Review Pick Selection, Merit Magazine Studio Award, Alcuin Society Award. She has also been Awarded major Grants and Fellowships from The Canada Council For The Arts, and Newfoundland And Labrador Arts Council, to further her work. In 2007 her debut collection of poetry, Once When I Wasn't Looking was published. This title is now on the study list in major universities, including University of Providence, Rhode Island, University of Winnipeg, Davis Library, North Carolina, and New York. She has published, in literary journals nationally/internationally, many works of short fiction/non-fiction, and in 2010 completed a work of literary/commercial fiction, a novel, The Shrimper's Last Song. She currently resides in St. John's, Newfoundland.
