Author: Walter B. Hendrickson

Walter Brookfield Hendrickson was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, the eldest son of a bookkeeper. In 1914, his father took ill and became bedridden, and he went to work. When his father died, he was the provider for his widowed mother and brother. During his school years he worked in a pharmacy, then the gas works, then in grocery stores. After graduating from high school, he attended Butler and then Purdue. He worked in a department store for a few years, then returned to Indiana University and then Harvard for his graduate work. In 1941 he took a position at MacMurray College, where he went on to become Professor Emeritus of History. His special interest is American social and intellectual history. He has written works on scientific history.
