D.B. Troester was born in Western New York, the youngest of eight children. He grew up in the Town of Pendleton in Niagara County, not far from the Erie Canal. He roamed the forests, trails and farms of the Niagara Frontier, and grew to love learning, language and literature. He has more than 1,000 published articles. He began to write "What Color Is the Wind?" as a young man. He left his native land for Utah in late 1999. In 2005, Troester finished "What Color Is the Wind?" and it was published in 2006. He is a researcer and writer for Tech Media Network, and lives in a cottage on the banks of the Jordan River in Salt Lake City.
