A PORTRAIT OF PUERTO RICO; A BOOK OF SATIRICAL CARTOONS FOR YOUNG AND OLD, FOCUSING ON PUERTO RICAN POLITICS OF THE 1940’S, BY GRAPHIC ARTIST FERNANDO LUIS CONESA. COMPILED BY GILDA MIRÓS.

A Portrait of Puerto Rico, a unique 240-page, 8.3/8 x 10.7/8 book, containing drawings and caricatures, of Puerto Rican politics of 1944, all published by El Imparcial newspaper. This rare paperback publication also contains cartoons strips by Fernando Luis Conesa; a master graphic artist of the early 1940’s. Conesa, an editorial cartoonist had the courage to question political motives and throw barbs at the politicians of the day. The draftsman also has the distinct honor of creating Cheo; the longest - running cartoon in Latin America; which to this day is still published daily.

Included are biographical data of the politicians implicated, a brief chronological history of Puerto Rico, and interviews with mayoress, Felisa Rincón de Gautier and Victoria Muñoz Mendoza, daughter of the late Muñoz Marín and who ran for the governor post during the 1996 elections.
It is A Portrait of Puerto Rico that most have never seen.
