Richard was born in Ireland in 1976, but has taken up permanent residency in the United Kingdom in Gloucester.

He has a BA in Philosophy and English Literature, an MA in Philosophy (thesis on Augustine) and a PhD in the Philosophy of Religion (Divine Foreknowledge and Morally Responsible Agency). He attended University at University College Dublin, and has taught in various capacities at UCD, the University of Reading, the Open University and the University of West of England.

He has published numerous books, articles, reviews and magazine entries. He is the founder and Chief Editor of Philosophical Frontiers: A Journal of Emerging Thought.
