Debasis Majumdar is a well-known name in the Bengali theatre circle. In 1977, he founded the theatre group Shudrak, of which he is now the director, and staged his famous play Amritakshar. In recognition of his contribution to theatre, he has been honoured with the Girish Puraskar and Paschimbanga Natya Academy Puraskar.
