Eric Doitch was born in Vienna on May 17th 1923, under the name Siegfried Steiner, son of Golda Steiner and Edmund Deutsch. He was expelled under the Nazis in 1939 and arrived in this country at the outbreak of the Second World War. Interned by the British Government on the Isle of Man he eventually managed to get to art school, training at Camberwell School of Art and the Royal College. After his graduation he spend many years as a teacher of printmaking, life drawing and painting using his tremendous skills as an artist to teach his students, at a time when traditional skills were frowned upon. Dedicated to his craft his skills as a draughtsman and painter are being increasingly recognized. Eric was also a renowned published poet in his native Austria and was part of the intellectual and artistic group that dominated London life after the Second World War. After moving to Lincolnshire in the 1970's he embarked on an intense and extensive study of landscape painting that lasted over thirty years. He died in the year 2000.
