The subject of his novel--originally "Jim Crow", more commonly available as "Houseboy"-- was too hot for a Southern gentleman, so Edison Marshall took this pen name for the one time, and had it published in England.
Marshall is from the 17th C. early settler Jonathan Fairbanks' family of Dedham, MA, as well as being my great-uncle. He had a string of nice-selling historically-themed novels--"Yankee Pasha", "Infinite Woman", "Caravan to Xanadu", etc., a few of which were made into movies.
