Kurt F. Svatek was born 1949 in Vienna, he lived and worked for nearly four decades in southern Lower Austria, and then he returned with his family to his native town. After receiving his high school degree he studied literature and pedagogy. Since 1973 Mr. Svatek, later to become a school councillor, was a teacher at the school for metal technology in Neunkirchen (bookkeeping, correspondence, political science and German). Since 2004 he is a freelanced writer.
He has published 43 books (poetry, limericks, aphorisms, essays, short stories, haikus, one novel), several pamphlets on aspects of philology and one schoolbook. His texts were featured in numerous magazines and anthologies and translated into all important languages. He has been awarded honors, prizes and distinctions (a total of 135) by 15 states (Austria, England, France, Italy, Greece, Japan, India, Israel, China, Brazil, Korea, Spain, Hong Kong, Mongolia and USA) and has been repeatedly proposed for the Nobel Prize in Literature and Peace by proponents from India and China and voted the best international poet of the year (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) by several literary periodicals. He is honorary professor, honorary doctor of literature, member or corresponding member of numerous academies (Italy, U.S., India, Greece, United Kingdom), Senator of the World Nations Congress, Consular Representative of the United Cultural Convention as well as member of a wide variety of Austrian and foreign literary associations (Germany, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Italy, Greece, India, Israel, China, Korea, Canada and USA), e.g. International PEN. A symposium on his works was held in Bangalore (India) in 2009.
