He was born in 1930 at Behala, Kolkata. One of the youngest Doctorate of Philosophy in Bengali Literature from the University of Calcutta. Started career as a journalist & then entered in the world of academics. He retired as a professor & Head Of the Department of Bengali Literature from Bidhan Chandra College. Known as a critic of Bengali Literature. He is famous for his critical analysis of Bengali essays & book review. He has number of published books - 'Bangla Probondho Sahityer Dhara (Vol I, II & III)', 'Sahitya Sadhak Vivekananda', 'Chotoder Netaji', 'Probondho Paryalochona' etc.
