Emil Weddige was born in Sandwich, Ontario, Canada in 1907, but developed a strong connection to Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University and Master of Art at the University of Michigan. He was appointed professor of Art at U of M in 1957 and professor emeritus in 1974. Weddige became a renowned lithographer and promoted the art nationally and internationally. His book, â€œLithography,â€ is considered a definitive text on the subject. In addition to many private collections, Weddigeâ€™s works may be seen in permanent collections at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Philadelphia Art Museum and at the Michigan League.
