N A Subramanian was a Professor of Madras law College and a practising solicitor. He was born in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu in 1915.

Other than a brief attempt at establishing a farm, NAS remained a solicitor, practising in Madras until his death in 1993.

NAS is survived by his two daughters, Kausalya and Ahalya who live in Chennai, and son, Neelakandan who has settled down in Ooty.
