Frederick Tilghman Boyd, "Fritz", was born in St. Paul, MN on March 8, 1913 the 5th child of Leon and Marie Boyd. The family moved to a farm outside Nelson, WI when Fritz was 5 years old, and Fritz lived there until he went to college at University of Wisconsin from 1929 - 1937. He received his Ph.D. in agronomy. He married Jeannette Marion Dresser in 1937 and moved to Belle Glade, FL, where the first two of his 5 children were born. He served in the army during WW II and Korean conflict, and attained rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from University of Florida as full professor in 1975. During the remaining years of his life he lived in Gainesville, FL during the winters and spent the summers at the farm where he was raised near Nelson, WI. He died in October, 1993.
