Between 1946 and 1953 he published ten crime novels, five under his own name, four under Robert Bloomfield, and one under Michael Gillian. He used Bloomfield for most of his Hollywood work as well. Curiously, his literary identities met on the movie Fear No More (1961): he was credited for the story as Leslie Edgley and for the screenplay as Robert Bloomfield.
