Maestro Joquim Ribeiro do Carmo, composer, Classical Ballet choreographer and one of the great authorities in the Vaganova method, writer, scenographist, theater director and former Ballet dancer for Brazil's National Theater, is also considered by many as "the Brazilian Chopin". Prof. Carmo's achievements started very early, when he developed a notation system to write Classical Ballet choreographies, as brilliantly explained in his book Balegrafia. Although he did not receive the deserved recognition in his own home country, Joaquim Ribeiro do Carmo is well-known in Ballet communities throughout the United States and Europe, especially in Portugal, England, France, Italy, Russia and Germany, where his beautiful Classical music is played in many of the most prestigious Ballet centers, such as The American Ballet Theater, The Bolshoi Ballet, Opera de Paris, Scalla di Milano, Teatro Sao Carlos and The Royal Ballet. Commendatore DellArte by The UNESCO in 1979, composed a great number of concertos and piano pieces, as well as full scale operas, award-winning choreographies and teaching techniques.
