His letters to his young beloved
Nancy Elizabeth Neel begin in Tennessee shortly after the Battle of Chickamauga and end near Augusta, Georgia, a few weeks before the surrender of Gen. Joseph E. Johnson. He survived the war, does marry his dearest " Lizzie " and has 2 daughters Willie and Ida. Unfortunately at the age of 24 he dies when he is kicked by a mule.
