Diogenes Burgess Adallis, a Greek was born in the town of Bithynia in Asia Minor on July 22, 1879. While in Constantinople Diogenes B. Adallis attended an American kindergarden and later came to the United States to enter college. "His father, Abraham Gudyacht-Adallis was Colporteur of the American Bible House of New York City, missionary for the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, and later, missionary for the London Sociedty of Friends in Turkey (Charleston Gazette June 22, 1941)." Between 1917 and 1941, Diogenes Adallis authored of over 12 business directories in English on Greek communities around the United States.
