After graduating from Purdue University, Mr Rawlins lived and worked in New York City. His professional positions included being founding secretary of Standard Salt Co, secretary for Carbola Chemical Co., secretary of the Lexington Avenue Civic Association and the 34th Street Midtown Association, and finally executive director and chief negotiator of the Realty Advisory Board. After retirement in 1949 he moved to Fulton county, NY.
