Bill was born in Yarmouth MA, on May 18, 1909, and died of lobar pneumonia in a hospital in Pocasset, MA, on September 7, 1934, at the young age of 25. He was married to Gilda (Massa) (Mulcahy) Anderson (October 24, 1909 - June 30, 1992) and had two children, William Francis Mulcahy (June 26, 1931 - ) and Ethel Marie (Mulcahy) (MacIntyre) Hefferan (June 2, 1932 - ).
First Gropings is a collection of poems that were mostly written during the author's years as a student at Revere High, in Revere, MA, during the mid 1920's. Bill kept writing through the early 1930's, struggling in the depths of the Great Depression to get his work published in some of the national periodicals of the day, in order to help support his young family. He was working on a volume of sonnets at the time of his death, which has remained unpublished. {Biography by his grandson, William F. Mulcahy}
