Troy Townsin was born in Melbourne, Australia and worked as an actor and playwright before embarking on backpacking trip around the world. He returned to Melbourne and earned a B.A. degree in International Studies, taking semesters in Malaysia, Turkey and the UK. After graduating, he worked for the United Nations Information Centre in London before taking a job as an event reporter. In 2004, he moved to Victoria, British Columbia, and co-wrote and self-published Cooking with BC Wine with his wife Cheryl-Lynn Townsin.
