I was born in Kingston Jamaica and lived there for the first fourteen years of my life. I was then brought to England where I've lived ever since. I've travelled to the Far East, throughout Western Europe, America and Africa. It was while on a visit to the ancient Yoruba city of Benin, Nigeria that I realised that art was to be my life.
In my art I am attempting to recover a lost African aesthetic, lost through the broken traditions of our peoples of the African Diaspora. This restoration of an African perception is part of our reawakening; it is therefore slow and painful. The struggle against the negative self image, towards realisation, is another stage of our rebirth after centuries of being in the shadows.
