Tibetan Lama, Geshe Gedun Tharchin was born in 1963 in Nepal to Tibetan parents. He received basic educations in Tashi Ling Tibetan School in Pokhara, Nepal and completed classical Tibetan monastic educations and trainings at Jangtse College of Gaden Monastic University of Tibet in India.

He received novice ordination by Yong Zin Ling Rinpoche and full ordination from the Fourteenth Dalai Lama. He received complete transmissions of both sutrayana and mantrayana aspects of Buddhism in Geluk tradition, from those two masters and many other teachers during his intensive formation of 18 years in Gaden and Gyudmed.

He is specialized in five treatises of Buddhism; Prajnaparamita, Madyamika, Abhidharma, Pramana and Vinaya with obtaining Karam, Lopon and Lharam degrees from Gelukpa University. He did his final Geshe Lharampa Examinations in presence of Gaden Tripa, Two choejes, six abbots of Gaden, Sera and Drepung, from 15 December 1993 till 5 January 1994, debates on five great treatises of Buddhism. He has conferred the Geshe Lharampa title during the auspicious occasion of the great prayer, Monlam Chenmo anniversary of year 1994.

During his time being in Gaden, he assumed diverse responsibilities such as secretary for Jangtse Dratsang, Gaden Lachi, Gelukpa University Examination Board and Gaden Gyalrong Khangtsen. He did teach philosophy to monks of Gaden and Gyudmed. Also he attended national and International level seminars as delegate of the monastery.

He studied English language at Studio School, Cambridge, UK and Western philosophy and religion at Beda College and Angelicum University in Rome. He was teacher of Tibetan language at Istituto di Studi Orientali e Africani (ISIAO - ISMEO) Rome and did collaboration for Tucci’s collections cataloguing program. In year 2000 he went to Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies in Taipei as visiting teacher.

Since, 1995 he has been paying special emphasize on meeting Lamas of Kagyu, Nyingma, Sakya for widen his knowledge in Tibetan Buddhism. He has been interested in meeting monks and masters from Zen, Chan and Theravada traditions to enrich his experience in general Buddhism. Also He has been meeting members of Christian Church, Iberia, Islam and Hindus and others faiths for learning their faiths and to create a unity among religions. He is especially interested in Gandhi’s philosophy of Ahimsa, the Universal Truth and Love. Also he has been providing financial helps to hundreds of needy Tibetans in India and Nepal.

Since 1996 he has been teaching Dharma in west. He has been travelling widely in Italy and abroad for seminars, lectures, conferences and teachings. Currently he is the founder and spiritual director of Lamrim Institute, Rome.

His book in Italian “La Via del Nirvana’ has been published in 2003 by an Italian editors, (Ellin Salae). His lectures and interviews have been published in many reviews and journals. www.geduntharchin.it
