Born in Madrid, Oscar Muinelo got his degree in Fine Arts in 1986
at the UniaersidarCl omplutensoef Madrid; in 1990h e attendedt he Schoolo f
Visual Arts and the Center for Book Arts in New York, and in 1991 he
achieved his Master in Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts at the Uniuersidad
Aut6noma of Madrid. In 1986, he started to work with the juxtaposition of
images. This method enriches the artwork from a dual point of view: on
one hand, the image becomes richer, concealing the meanings and making
them more intricate; on the other hand, the onlooker feels distant and ready
to have an insight. Both goals are important in his current works.
When he was about to finish his Master, in 1990, he came to the
USA for the first time. In his short stay here, he was very rnuch influenced
by the urban phenomenon and his paintings turned more geometric and
darker.
