**Charles Gibson, MD**

Charles Gibson was a lecturer and examiner in the faculty of medicine at the University of Durham, England and consultant physician to the Newcastle Dispensary (115 New Bridge Street which finally closed in 1976).

The *Gibson Prize* began in 1906 because of the Will of the late Charles Gibson, M.D., and the College has come into the possession of the sum of £225, to be employed in founding an annual prize in the subject of Midwifery and Diseases of Women and Children.
