Mr. Niranjan Sarkar joined the Deptt. of Rasearch, of then NEFA Administration in 1961 as an Assistant Director . By profession, he was an Anthropologist with a passion to discover the complex tribal social structure of NEFA. He conducted intensive field studies among the different tribes of the state of Arunachal Pradesh and produced the following valuable books and written numerous number of reports and articles, did numerous guest lectures in many Indian and Foreign Universities, besides supervision of the Research project, one of his most ambitious and successful projects being THE STATE MUSEUM OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH.
Till date his books are being used by numerous scholars, professors and students for reference, and many of his books are first of its kind research.
He retired as deputy Director of Research Deptt. in 1996.
He is survived by his Wife(Prava Sarkar), Son(Rajarshi) and Daughter (Nabanita).
