Nigel Honorius Hurt Sitwell (N H H Sitwell) was born in Bombay (Mumbai) in India in 1948. He was educated at Eton, King's College Cambridge and University College, London. At London, he would read archaeology, and he would publish two books: Roman Roads Of Europe (Cassell, 1981) and The World The Romans Knew (Hamish Hamilton, 1984) which was later republished as Outside The Empire.
He married Elizabeth Mozley, daughter of the artist Charles Mozley, in 1974. They had one son and one daughter.
Nigel Sitwell died of influenza at his home in Kew, near London, England, in December 1999.
