Mufunanji Magalasi is an Associate Professor in Drama currently teaching at the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. Born on 9th September, 1963 in Malawi, he studied for two diplomas at Afrika Cultural Centre before doing Drama & Film (Hon.) and Master of Dramatic Art degrees at University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg in the 1990s. Between 2001 and 2005, he read for his PhD in Drama at the University of Malawi and University of the West of England, Bristol under Femi Abodunrin, James Gibbs and David Kerr. He has published considerably on Malawian drama, literature and culture and his book Stage Drama in independent Malawi 1980 - 2000 (2011) is in print at Chancellor College Publications, Malawi. While teaching at the University of Malawi, he has been a visiting fellow at the Workshop Theatre, Leeds University; Escola Communicacao e artes at Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, Mozambique, and a facilitating theatre for development director at Zambia Open University, Lusaka, besides staging over ten professional plays in Johannesburg, England, and Malawi. He is currently Dean of Humanities at Chancellor College
