Muriel was born in New York of Puerto Rican parents. They moved to Puerto Rico in 1947. She has a B.A. from the Univ. of P.R., a Master of Arts from New York Univ. and an Education Doctor from Boston University. She taught English in Puerto Rico, and at the Univ. of P.R. for more than 25 years. At the same time as a hobby she took art lessons with well known painters in Puerto Rico: Bueso & Gantes, Soto-Munoz, and Bart Mayol. In 1991 she completed the North Light Art School Program in the fine art of painting and drawing. She has exhibited her work painting and drawing. She has exhibited her work at the TampaAquarium,
The Spring Hill Fall Art Festival at Weeki-Wachee, where she won an award in 2005. She has also exhibited in Orlando at the First Inmigration Fair in 2007 and previously had donated a painting to the Hispanic Office for Local Assistance in Orlando (HOLA), also in 2007. She likes to paint landscapes, seascapes and portraits, and her art work can be seen on her websites.
