John Stevenson was born in the United Kingdon. He began his career as an artist and illustrator on a wide variety of projects including the Children’s Museum of Bogota, Colombia. In the late 1970's he worked for Jim Henson as a storyboard artist and designer and background puppeteer on The Muppet Show. He has written several Muppets books, and worked on several movies such as The Great Muppet Caper, The Dark Crystal, Little Shop of Horrors, and Labyrinth. In the 1990's he joined DreamWorks where he worked on many films, such as Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004), and Madagascar (2005). He directed the 2008 Dreamworks film, Kung Fu Panda, for which he won an Oscar in 2009.
